Rev Jan Harney
Our School has close links with our local parish church, All Saints, Glazebury.
The Vicar, Rev Jan Harney, comes into school to join in our Collective Worship session most weeks on Tuesdays - except when the Open the Book team come in with a visual and interactive storytelling session based on a Bible story. That team is made up of Christians from local churches including Glazebury Methodist Chapel and we are fortunate that the local churches work well together with good grace and lots of laughter. They have supported us for years through 2 long interregnums (where we had no Vicar here) till March 2018.
Rev Jan enjoys being part of our school and loves to join in our singing; helps us be creative with our Prayer life and also to listen to children read. She says has learned so much herself – especially about dinosaurs and the Solar System! She has been coming in on Wednesdays to eat lunch with the children and to lead our school choir. This year the Choir has been out to sing at the Glazebury over-60's group and to a Dementia Friendly singing group, as well as leading the singing at our school Christmas fair, at the switching on of our village Christmas lights and singing Christmas Carols at Bents garden centre.
We’ve had several individual class sessions with Rev Jan, including celebrating the Eucharist and a ‘What Would Jesus do’ prayer session in church. The entire school has visited Church for services to celebrate Christmas, Christingle, Easter, Pentecost, Harvest, Remembrance and also for our School Leavers service - where each year 6 pupil has been gifted a Bible from All Saints parishioners. Rev Chris Stratton, the Deanery Schools Chaplain, has also visited with his fabulous and very popular Crazy Science sessions – proving that faith and science are compatible - and local schools have been out to his Church for Easter & Christmas story sessions.
Our school ethos has always focused on caring for others and this year we started collecting for local food banks as a joint project with Church. Everyone has been so generous in supporting this. We are truly blessed to be part of a loving community that acts upon its values.
